MIX OUTPUT :
The FAIRCHILD 670 mkII is equipped with a Mix Control which allows to set a perfect blend/balance between the compressed signal coming from the Output and the non-compressed signal coming from the Input.
Some people also call it the "Wet / Dry control", but I prefer to reserve this name for Reverb and Delay applications in Mixing contexts.
To Keep everything simple, the FAIRCHILD 670 mkII has two sets of stereo Outputs at the back :
1. The normal 670 Outputs, straight from the Output Transformers, as the original FAIRCHILD670 use to be, with no Mix facility interfering.
2. A separate Stereo Mix Out which is the dedicated Output from the MIX control.
The Mix control goes gradually from input (equivalent to being in a Bypass situation) to Output (equivalent to the standard classic 670mkII Out)
See Back Panel page for more details.
IMPORTANT Technical aspect regarding the Mix Output :
- It is an electronically balanced amplifier that will drive old classic equipment with extremely low input impedance without a problem; unlike a lot of mixing desk insert points, computer cards or interface that simply cannot perform across the whole frequency range without experiencing horrible phase shifts and poor levels at low frequencies…
- It is a fully protected Output circuitry that will drive shorts between pin 2 and pin 3.
- It will automatically compensate for the -6 dB loss you would normally get whenever you short pin 3 to the ground when unbalancing the signal, using the pin 2 hot standard.

- It will have no problem with accidental phantom +48V supply applied to the outputs.
